Peter Johan Lubig, April 8, 1957 – November 4, 2017
Word was received November 4 that Peter Lubig, president of the SWPC 2011-2013 and president of the Short Wings Over Canada chapter, died that morning. Peter had been receiving treatment for cancer since his diagnosis a few months ago.

Peter was born in Vlissingen, Netherlands. He passed away peacefully in Peterborough, ON with family by his side. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Bonnie; children Stephen, Jesse (Jamie) and Stephanie (Max); grandchildren Scout and Hunter; mother Anna, brother Robert (Jill), sisters Monique (Alex), Annelies (Jaap) and Ellen (Harry), sisters-in-law Janet (Kevin) and Susan, brother-in-law Bob (Monica) as well as many dear nieces, nephews, and friends.
A Funeral Church Service was held at Hillhurst United Church, 1227 Kensington Close N.W., Calgary, Alberta on Friday, November 10, 2017 at 11:00 a.m.
There was also to be a Celebration of Life Drop-in at Peterborough Airport (Fly-in optional), Complete Aviation Services Ltd. (World Fuel Services), Cavan-Monaghan, ON, on November 18.

Bonnie sent out the following email from the family announcing Peter’s death:
Hello to all our wonderful Family and Friends,
It is with sadness that we share with you that Peter passed away this morning at 08:50. For the first time last night, throughout the night and this morning, he was not suffering and he went peacefully, with Stephen and Jesse and I by his side.
Thank you all for so much Love and Support through your messages over the past four months. They kept us uplifted.
I am so sorry for your loss as well.

A very nice tribute to Peter can be found in Steve Pierce’s Short Wing Pipers.Org monthly update, which has a photo of Peter and Bonnie in their Short Wing. Steve in his remarks said, “I will truly miss those visits and his beautiful pictures, as he almost always had a collection of cameras around his neck.” The cover has a link to one of the threads of the Short Wing Pipers.Org forum, entitled “A Great Loss to the SWP Community,” which on Nov. 22 had 18 separate posts from friends of Peter.
(Eleanor’s note: I too will miss Peter’s photos and his ideas for making the SWPC better. I’m sure I speak for the club and its many members in expressing our sympathy to Bonnie and the rest of Peter’s family.)
